Disclosure

Affiliate & advertising disclosure

The straightforward version: how we make money, and what we promise you about the line between editorial and commercial.

FTC-compliant affiliate disclosure

Some posts on Style & Room contain affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the retailer pays us a small commission at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same as if you'd visited the retailer directly.

This is the same arrangement used by most editorial sites that recommend products. We make this disclosure because the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires it, but also because we think it's a fair thing to tell you.

Affiliate networks we participate in

The FTC-required disclosure for one of these is: as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

How a product gets included in a post

Editorial first, commercial second. A product appears in a post because it fits the room, the price point, and the look — not because it pays the highest commission rate. Our process:

  1. The editor writes the post around a real room, a real budget, or a real problem.
  2. We pick products that solve the problem from a curated bank we maintain. Each product has been chosen on its merits — looks, build quality, reviews, returns policy.
  3. The bank is matched to the post by topic and category. Affiliate commission is not a tiebreaker.
  4. Whenever possible we use our own photographs. Where we use retailer photography, it's used under affiliate programme terms.

Display advertising (Google AdSense)

Once approved, we will run Google AdSense display ads on post pages. We will not run ads on:

Ads are placed automatically by Google based on each visitor's interests. We do not see, audit, or hand-pick the specific ads shown to you. To opt out of personalised ads, use the consent banner shown on your first visit, or visit Google Ads Settings.

What we will not do

How to support the site honestly

If you want to support the work without paying for it: read posts, share them with friends, and subscribe to the newsletter. If you're going to buy a recommended product anyway, clicking through one of our affiliate links costs you nothing and tells us what's working.
